The stator is the stationary part of an electric motor or generator. It provides the magnetic field that interacts with the rotor (the rotating part) to produce motion or electrical energy.
Components of a StatorStator Core: Made of stacked electrical steel laminations to reduce energy losses.
Windings: Copper or aluminum wire coils wound around the stator core slots.
Frame: The outer structure that supports the stator core and windings.
Insulation: Materials that prevent electrical shorts between windings and the core.
When current flows through the stator windings, it creates a rotating magnetic field. This magnetic field induces motion in the rotor, enabling the motor to spin. In generators, the rotors motion induces current in the stator windings.
Types of StatorsSquirrel Cage Stator: Common in induction motors, simple and robust.
Wound Stator: Has windings connected to external circuits, used in synchronous motors.
Brushless DC Motor Stators: With precise winding patterns for efficient torque.
